Bad Ischl is a pictoresque spa town surrounded by Austrian Alps famous mostly as a Summer residence of Austria-Hungary emperor Franz-Joseph and his wife Elisabeth, called Sissi. Located in the heart of the Salzkammergut, it’s a great place to stay in if you want to enjoy few days in the region and make trips around to Salzburg, Mondsee or Wolfgangsee or even the world famous Hallstatt.
The city centre is tiny and even with buggy, you’ll walk around it in less than hour long stroll. Notable sights in the centre is the Kongress and Theaterhouse with nice outdoor playground next to it.
During Summer it might be difficult to find a parking spot in the centre itself, so we recommend to park your car behind the Kongresshouse (entry from Kurhausstrasse) and then walk on Wiererstrasse, Pfarrgasse (don’t miss the famous k.k. Pastry and coffee house - Konditorei Zauner) and then to Kaiser Franz Joseph strasse and back by Kreuzplatz. From there you can also visit the Kaiservilla (parking in front is quite often very full).
The public transport is simple in Bad Ischl, though we recommend to get there eithe bx car or bus and then just enjoy the mountain brerze while walking around.
