Buenos Aires, the home of Tango, has a reputation of being a green and baby-friendly city. The large metropole spreads from the Rio de la all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. It has numerous park areas with quiet places and playgrounds, where you can relax away from the main crowds – the Parque de los Niňos (outdoor attractions, playgrounds), the Bosques de Palermo, the Parque de las Heras or the Reserva Ecologica Costanera Sur to name but a few. You can also enjoy the afternoon riding a carrousel in one of the city parks (www.lascalesitas.com.ar).
Visit the Temaikén, a natural zoo and ecological park. On rainy days, don’t hesitate to enter the Abasto shopping mall with the Neverland, a small indoor playground and amusement park and the Children’s museum.
Boulevards like Avenida Florida or Caminito are well paved and easy to walk. In the modern district of Puerto Madero, a newly developed city district with public parks, you will find nice walkways and many restaurants with outside seating, where you can park your buggy and relax. Almost every restaurant has a baby chair and the baby meals are usually served before yours. Additionally, some restaurants have small playground areas dedicated for kids, which allows you to enjoy your meal. Keep in mind that restaurants start serving dinner at around 8 pm, so for earlier meal look for a café.
If you plan to visit the main sights, use your buggy as the public transport is fairly easy, however like in any capital city sometimes overcrowded (especially during rush hours), don’t worry though, the fellow passengers will always help you, advice you (if you speak Spanish) and cheer your kids up on top of that. You can choose between buses, subways and local trains. Don’t rent a car unless you want to travel outside of the city.
As a day trip, enjoy the boat rides on the Delta of Rio de la Plata to Tigre, drive to the Zoo Lujan or take a ferry to the neighbouring country, Uruguay, to visit the capital city Montevideo or the small town of Colonia.
