Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is a great place to travelling with children. It's flat, clean and its public transport is convenient. Buses, subway and suburban trains transfer you for a relatively low price and all of them have a special place for buggies. The traffic is not busy, public transport vacant, the local metro goes both under and above-ground with both ends of the train glass fronted, making travelling with it like watching transportation through a worm hole. Public transport from the airport to the city centre is non-stop and comfortable, however you can also use a taxi or rent a car.
Denmark is famous for its cycling culture and Copenhagen could well be called the city of bicycles. For a small fee you can rent a bike, get to where you want to be and leave the bike at a pre-designated place. Just be careful as cyclists always have right of way. Bikes with attached "baby carriers" are available too, but you won't find those freely rented on the street and you have to ask for them either at your hotel or at special bike rental companies.
Locals are very friendly and helpful and communication in English is not a problem. Almost every city park includes children's playgrounds and are greatly equipped, we like the King's Garden Playground in Kongens Have, Nature Playgroung in Valbyparken or the running routes in Søndermarken. Both museums and expositions are adjusted for small children in the sense of separated play rooms. No one will complain about your little ones running around freely and changing rooms with microwaves are not an exception.
There are plenty of cafés spread throughout the city, but dining at a restaurant could be pretty expensive. All food stores provide baby nutrition and additionally shopping malls have dedicated rooms for breastfeeding and are equipped with microwaves.
Unlike in the City ZOO, a smaller local version called Byoasen, allows kids to get closer and pet the animals. If you’re looking for some water-animal fun, visit the National Aquarium (Den Bla Planet), including a water playground, many aquariums and of course a cafeteria. Even though Copenhagen is located on an island, it still provides many fun city parks and playgrounds. Visit the Ørstedsparken or the Kongens Have, a royal garden, that twice a day plays a puppet theatre during the summer months.
Close to the Ørstedsparken lies a covered food market, Torvehallerne, which is perfect for visits during rainy days. Even better is the Remisen Indendørs Legeplads, an indoor children’s playground which features supercool attractions for children and even has opening hours dedicated for the youngest ones only (Tue-Thu, 9:00am-12:30pm).
Last but not least, the Tivoli gardens, an amusement park located right next to the main train station, is the right place to go if you want to tire out your young rebels. It’s opened all year round changing the ride themes according to the current season. In case you don't have enough, you may also visit Bakken, the oldest amusement park in the world.
