Innsbruck, the centre of winter sports (however ideal for summer holidays as well), is a small city on a flat platform surrounded by mountains. It is perfect for family holidays any time of the year.

Some of the peaks surrounding Innsbruck are accessible by cable cart, which means you can see snow in middle of the summer season. City highlights include the Imperial Palace and the Tirol Panorama Museum, as well as the Golden roof, the Court Church, the Ambras Castle, the City Tower, the St. James’ Cathedral, the Wilten Abbey Basilica and the Maria Theresien Street – all well worth a visit! While enjoying a walk along the river Inn, you will find a public park at the north end of the city called Hofgarten, though there are a few playgrounds on both sides of the river bank as well.

The city is an ideal base for many hiking and camping trips. With older kids, you can visit the Muttereralm park, an adventurous playground for kids of all ages. During Summer, you can cool down in one of the many Kneipp pools.

The public transport in Innsbruck is well organised, but unlike in other big cities, it is necessary to buy the tickets before boarding the bus. Innsbruck has its own international airport, though it might be more convenient to land in Munich and then take a train or rent a car.
