Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, is located on the northwest coast of the world's most populous island of Java. Economic, cultural and political center with a population of over 10mio people, Jakarta is the second largest urban agglomeration in the world, so you can imagine the city being quite busy and hectic. Trying to be a child friendly city and to provide green open spaces for citizens, Jakarta has targeted to build 300 Child Friendly public spaces in parks by 2017. Those should be equipped with playground, games, library, baby changing rooms, and other facilities. Merdeka square, largest city square in the world with a deer park. Kalijodo park opened 24/7 with nice playground. Ancor Dreamland, amusement park, including beach, aquarium, water park and the Dunia Fantasy world.
Jakarta offers many indoor and outdoor playgrounds with different themes. Best outdoor playgrounds to visit are Kemang or Playparq (in/outdoor). Since rainy season in Jakarta covers most of the years, you will probably spend some time in one of the indoor playgrounds too, here are few to name: Kidspace in Pondok Indah (age 6mths – 15 years), Kidzoona (0-12 years), KindiROO (0-5years), Lollipops Playland (1-11 years), Chipmunk’s Playland (1-12 years) or Miniapolis kids club. And best of all indoor fun in Jakarta for both toddlers and older children - visit Kidzania. It is a place where your kids can try 70 different professions, try to act like an adults, spend effectively good time. And above all, they really like it!
For some indoor fun with older children, you can visit one of many Trampoline Parks where you kids can jump, run up a walls, bounce for fun, slam dunk or maneuver all day long. We recommend Wowzania or Houbii, where even parents can have some fun with their champs.
Get freshened up in one of the funny Water Parks where your children can splash around in the pool. Try the Wave at Pondok Indah Mall and Waterbom Pondok Indah Kapuk Jakarta.
If your kids are more into animals you can try Ragunan Zoo, that offers 147 hectares of lush plants and trees. Still not tired of animals? Try Taman Safari Indonesia in Puncak, which is in a much better condition, with well attended animals.
Getting around Jakarta is not a pleasant experience even for adapted expats. Due to traffic jams, driving doesn’t seem as the best option and strolling around with buggy could be pretty dangerous sometimes. Public transport in Jakarta is affordable, sometimes very packed but overall still quite efficient, even with a pram. Local bus lines and the Commuterline (local trains) are usually (but not always) barrier-free. Taxis are quite cheap option too, but be prepared that they don’t possess the child seats and the same goes for Uber or Grabcar. Getting from the airport to the city center, again, is not very convenient. You can catch a taxi, that will take around 1.5hr, or bus (not barrier free) or rent a car.
