Kandy, one the busiest cities in Sri Lanka is home to the most important Buddhist site in the country, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha (free entry). The city has quite some parks and forests to relax in, though the best place to visit with a buggy is the Royal botanic gardens in Peradeniya. Kandy´s landscape is slightly hilly, therefore making it a better place for a baby carrier than a buggy.

Udawatta Kelle Sanctuary, nature reserve and old royal park, is a nice hike up the hill from Kandy town centre (admission fee). It’s a lovely area for walks surrounded by animals, tropical plants and birds. Be sure to take some water with you, because walking on the hillside can get very hot.

Getting to Kandy from Colombo´s international airport, 115 km away, takes three hours, not factoring in traffic. The local public transport only includes local buses which usually are very crowded. If you want to move around, it´s better to use Riksha, however they are not equipped with baby seats.
