An amazing view on the mountains usually comes at a price - the city of Lausanne is located on a hilly landscape and to walk around, you might want to use some extra muscle. Nevertheless, as is typical for Swiss cities, it won't take you more than a day to visit all main sights; the Notre Dame cathedral, the Saint Francois Church, the Olympic Museum and the promenade at the lake which has been designed to be ideal for buggy walks and is fun for small kids. The Parc de Milan and the Ouchy port are places with children's playgrounds and the nearby Bellerive Plage offers access to the lake with a nice outdoor swimming complex. You can also climb on the top of the wooden tower in Lac de Sauvabelin area, north of Lausanne's city centre. The Sauvabelin ZOO is located right next to the small lake.

Don't be afraid to use local public transport to visit nearby cities, Montreaux, Vevey or Chateaux Chillon.
