Lisbon, the capital and largest city with its half million inhabitants, is spread out on seven hills at the mouth of the river Teio. It offers a combination of historic monuments and modern architecture.

Moving around the city is unpretentious and you can go to most places on foot. To get around the city you can use the metro, the buses, the suburban trains or the tram. If you take the tram the historical carts will throw you back in time a few decades.

In Lisbon you will find yourself at the very edge of Europe, where the mysterious Atlantic Ocean is within reach and the air is always saturated with a salty scent. The city offers a beautiful promenade along the coast. Lisbon is full of beautiful churches, palaces and monasteries and it is dominated by St. George’s castle.

If you visit Lisbon, you should visit Plaza Praça do Comércio, the Monastery of St. Jerome, the Lisbon oceanarium to name but a few places.

When visiting the city with children you should not miss a ride with the old tram, especially the tram line no. 28, which covers the greatest part of the city. Another great place to visit with you little ones is the Ocenario de Lisboa. It offers many water activities, fountain, sculptures and cable cart ride. If you love the beach you should not miss out on a few relaxing moments on of the beautiful beaches.
