Although Lucerne is surrounded by high mountains and it is possible to see snow-capped peaks in winter, the oldtown itself is flat, pedestrians only and walkable within one day. Most of your walks will be around the lake, which is an easy stroll and you can push your buggy smoothly. Keep in mind that the north to south traffic over the Seebrücke is quite busy during working days.

Even though there are many winter and summer activities for your youngest ones outside of Luzern, there are some things to attract their attention within the city as well. Stroll over the Kapellbrücke, one of the oldest wooden bridges in Europe (attention: you need to carry the buggy up a few stairs to get on) and then through the Hertensteinstrasse with many Cafés and adorable Swiss shops. Cross the main street, Zürichstrasse and climb a couple of hundred meters to the Löwendenkmal, a more than life-sized lion carved into the rock with a tiny lake in front of it. If you want to admire the nature, visit the next-door Glacier gardens or if it is raining enter the Spiegelmuseum (mirror museum). Get refreshed during Summer months and visit the Lido, a larg playground at the lake, including a swimming pool and a volleyball courts.

You will most probably arrive in Lucerne by train from the closest airport in Zurich (about 1 hour) or from Basel, which will take only 30 minutes longer. Both the public transport and the trains are barrier free and the main train station is right in the centre of the city.

The Christmas markets has a wonderful atmosphere, the Spring Carnival is a show full of masks and the Summer Blue Ball festival brings music stars from all over the world to the city. Be aware that those are the times, when the city get really crowded and take it into consideration when planning your trip.
