Manchester, located North West of Great Britain close to Liverpool, is known as the world’s soccer sanctuary (FC Manchester United and FC Manchester City) as well as for its rich history and interesting sights. Thanks to the industrial revolution, Manchester has become a wealthy city, which is reflected in the local architecture that features the Victorian style as well as plenty skyscrapers including Britain's second largest building, Beetham Tower.
It’s easy to stroll around the diverse city centre, starting at the Albert Square or Piccadilly Gardens. which offers a variety of neighbourhoods, like Curry Mile instantly moving you to Turkey, with ever-present smell of water pipes, delicious kebabs and the typical Arabic music in the background. Or be instantly transported thousand miles East. Manchester’s Chinatown is the largest in the UK, and the second largest in Europe, dominated by the Chinese Imperial Arch.
Walk your buggy alongside the City Hall, the Midland Bank, the Synagogue, the Strangeways Prison, the Urbis Museum or the most impressive building in the city, the John Rylands Library, which is located at Manchester University. Relax in one of the city parks with children’s playgrounds (Heaton park or Wythenshaw park) or in one of the city’s six nature reserves (Chorlton Water Park, Blackley Forest, Clayton Vale and Chorlton Ees, Ivy Green, Boggart Hole Clough and Highfield Country Park.
During Summer months join the rush of one of the city markets when many city squares are filled fresh food, art and craft products. Don’t forget to go to the Bury Market (world’s famous and top 10 in UK) or the indoor Arndale Market. In case you’re visiting Manchester in winter, it’s definitely worth absorbing the Christmas atmosphere in one of Europe’s most popular Christmas markets (Altrincham market, or the Christmas Market at Albert Square). Manchester has one of the UK’s most dense bus and tram network. Getting from and to Manchester’s international airport is possible either by train (Frist TransPennine Express and Northern Rail, takes approx. 20minutes and run every 10 minutes from Piccadilly) or by bus (lines 5, 18, 19, 43, 44, 103, 199, 200).
