Prague, mother of all cities (Caput Rei publicae), is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. Spread on banks of Vltava (Moldau) river, the city center is listed as UNESCO world heritage site. There´s no wrong time of the year for a visit due to temperate climate with warm Summers and chilly winters. Planning a trip to Prague is more about avoiding main tourist season, that makes the Old Town terribly crowded.
You will experience thousand years of history and architecture, just by walking around the city center. Although the pavements are mostly paved with cobble stones (get your comfy shoes ready), Prague is ideal for buggy walks, as all major sights are in walking distance. Being bit hilly, you will need to use extra muscle while walking to the Prague Castle (largest castle complex in the world), to Petřín hill or to Vyšehrad. Lesser Town, Kampa, Charles Bridge, Old Town with its astronomical clock or the Jewish quarter are just a tip of the iceberg.
Prague parks and gardens are not ideal for picnics although you will still find few, where you can relax. Entrance to the historical gardens is usually charged, parks with many children playgrounds are accessible for free and well maintained. Enjoy quiet time at Petřín hill with Petřín tower (miniature of Eiffel tower) and glass labyrinth sitting on the top, Šárka natural park, Ladronka park with its running and skating lane, Kampa or Rieger´s garden. Enjoy a day in Prague Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in Europe and currently rated as #5 in the world, Stromovka park which is just across the river or the nearby botanical gardens.
Prague offers also quite a lot of indoor and water fun, though you need to travel bit out of the city centre. Try Aquapalace with many slides and pools in Čestlice or one of many indoor cafe´s with playgrounds dedidated to the youngest ones (e.g. Koala café, Family center Paleček. With older kids, you can visit the National technical museum, Gutovka outdoor park, Water world museum, the nearby Planetarium or the Creative world center.
Public transport in Prague is quite convenient. Most of the three metro lines stations are barrier free (those in wider city area). Tram and bus lines run regularly though only half is modernised and with dedicated space for buggies and half of them are old ones where you have to carry the buggy to get on board. Getting from Prague airport is easy as well. Either by public transport - bus lines 119 taking you to metro line A (approx. 15 min) and line 100 taking you to the metro B (approx. 18min), by UBER or a taxi (but be very careful to set the price in advance. Prague taxi drivers are known for overpricing and cheating) or by Airport Express taking you to the main train station (in about 35min).
