The National Palace Museum is an art and history museum located in the wider Taipei city area. With it’s adjacent park, it is one of the places to go to not only learn about Taiwanese culture but also to escape the busy life of this mesmerising city. The museum has over 700 thousands art and historical artefacts collected during 8 thousand years of the Chinese empire.
There is no need to buy tickets in advance, as the exhibitions are spread around the vast palace area. Everyone under 18 years old has free entry, as well as seniors 65 years above. Regular adult ticket is for NTS350. All portable objects, larger than A4 must be stored in the Museums lockers although the baby strollers are available free of charge. As one of the museum rules, visitors shouldn’t disturb others, meaning no running, sitting on the floor, eating or drinking, etc.
Getting there by public transport might be bit tricky as there is not MRT station nearby and you have to exit at Shilin station (red line) and then take a bus. We hoped on the Hop on-off bus, that took us from the Main Train station directly there.
