Nitra castle

Nitra castle is national cultural monument situated on the hill and is perfectly visible from the Old town below. The abandoned pre-christian settlement was in 8th century AD occupied by Slav and from that moment its' importance starts to rise. In the 11th century we have the first information about castle built with its beautiful basilica.

In the 11th century we have the first information about castle built with its beautiful basilica.

It is a serious climb from the Old Town to the castle hill, especially with a stroller. But the views from the top are rewarding. For a small fee for adults, you can visit the outside area and cathedral. The best way is to go from the entrance to John Paul II statue and take a small path just next to the castle. You will get to the upper yards and avoid the stairs to the cathedral.  

If you want to climb to the top of the tower, you will have to pay additional fee and also carry your baby as it does not have a barrier free access.
