Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square are the three top places that you shouldn´t miss while visiting Prague. Since 1918, seat of Czech Republic´s president, the castle is listed as the largest castle complex in the world. Composed of palaces, churches, castle gardens and St. Vitus cathedral, it is nice place for a stroll and you can leave your children run around. The only accessible green are the Royal garden but same as in other gardens in Lesser town, the Royal garden are not suitable for babies and are accessible only during Summer season. Easy stroll is from the castle through the Stag Moat, a natural ravine of Brusnice street and only possible place in the castle complex to let your children run around on green field.
Like any other major attractions, Prague Castle is quite crowded during tourist season (June – September). The security checks, installed few years ago, are not helping to enter smoothly at all. Metal scans are located at every entrance to the complex, making the visit more difficult. If you don´t want to wait in long queue, plan the castle visit before 9am or after 3pm. Be aware that there is regular mass in St. Vitus cathedral every Sunday at 10am.
The access to Prague Castle complex is fairly easy. Take the tram 22 up to the hill (stop called Pražský hrad - option 1 on the map). Nearest metro stations are on the green line A (Malostranská, Hradčanská). Usually you can leave the Castle through the Old Castle Stairs to metro station Malostranská – (option 4), which is absolutely unsuitable with buggy, unless you want to carry it down (100 stairs). Most convenient is to leave through the main gate (option 2) and then through Ke Hradu and Nerudova streets down to the St. Nicholas church and then to the Charles Bridge.
General entry to the castle is for free though if you wish to enter the palaces or back of St. Vitus cathedral, you need to purchase tickets. Children under 6 years are for free and the tickets are valid for 2 days. Baby changing rooms are located in the ladies rooms on the third square, in front of the cathedral.
