This island between the old city and La Defense is actually one big sport's ground which has areas for public as well. It has a playground for older kids as well. If you plan to walk from the Boulogne forrest to La Defense, you can take the path across this island. The only thing you have to keep in mind is, that barrier free access is only from the Pont de Puteaux bridge, the second bridge which is closer to La Defense has long stairs to climb.
